The city of Andover, Minnesota, was first organized in 1857 under the name “Round Lake Township.” However, in 1860 the name was changed to “Grow Township” in honor of Representative Galusha A. Grow of Pennsylvania. Representative Grow had spoken at a political campaign in Anoka that year, and the townspeople decided to change the name to honor him. In 1874, the township was divided into East Grow Township and West Grow Township. In 1875, Andover was officially incorporated as a village, and in 1976 it became a city.
